Extra Peakland meet open to all MAS and club members

We have added a meet at the end of the season on the Camping and Caravanning Club site at Windermere, see the events page for more details,. This is a booked meet, as of 31/07 there are only four pitches left. Les Morton 07967 900225

Section Secretary

On the last day of the Festival of Walking and Cycling Christine Mason offered to be nominated as Section Secretary. Members of the council have subsequently voted and she has been formally elected as our Secretary. We are hugely grateful to her. If we had failed to fill this post the Section would not have been able to continue.

Section Name Change

The motion to change the name of the Mountain Activity Section to the Walking and Cycling Section was formally proposed and discussed at the Section AGM held at Beckford Village Hall on 4th May. The votes cast in the ballot were as follows: Number of votes in favour of changing the Section name to the Walking and Cycling Section, 191 (85.26%) including 140 proxy votes. Number of votes against changing the Section name to the Walking and Cycling Section, 31 (13.84%) including 23 proxy votes. Abstentions 2 (0.9%). The name change motion has therefore passed the necessary 2/3rds threshold for approval at Section level. The ballot results will now be discussed at various Camping and Caravanning Club senior level Committees with a final decision on approval of the name change not expected until the Club’s National Council meeting in November.

Walking Routes

A key feature of the MAS website is our archive of walking routes. The View Map feature for each route has been updated to show an interactive elevation chart alongside information on elevation and total ascent. Click on the More Info button to select a route and give this new feature a try. Use your mouse, trackpad or your finger on a touch screen to trace along the elevation profile to view your position on the map and display the distance and elevation information.
